Waldorf Red Cake
Cake
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup | |
| Sugar | 1 1/2 Cups | |
| Eggs | 2 | |
| Red Food Coloring | 1 oz. | |
| Vanilla | 1 tsp. | |
| Salt | 1 tsp. | |
| Buttermilk | 1 Cup | |
| Cake Flour | 2 1/4 Cups | |
| Soda | 1 tsp. | |
| Vinegar | 1 Tbsp. | |
| Cocoa | 2 Tbsp. |
Add vinegar to soda. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs; make paste of coloring, cocoa and add to mixture. Alternate milk with flour and salt; add vinegar and soda. Do not beat hard, just blend. Bake 30 minutes at 350°. Cool. Cut each layer through to make four layers.
Icing
| Flour | 3 Tbsp. | |
| Sugar | 1 Cup | |
| Butter | 1 Cup | |
| Milk | 1 Cup | |
| Vanilla | 1 tsp. | |
| Powdered Sugar | 1/4 Pound |
Cook flour and milk until thick. Cool. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla until very fluffy. Add to milk and flour mixture. Do no beat too long. Ice cake.
